Hammond, La. — Fashion, a huge part of high school for students but not so much in college anymore? Students in colleges today prefer more comfortable clothing more than more fashionable clothing in classes these days than ever before. Both male and female students resort to casual clothing throughout the country.

In today’s society, female college students dress not to impress but dress for comfort. Female student’s go-to outfits for walking around campus include leggings and an oversized tee-shirt with sneakers or tennis shoes. According to a Youtube video posted by Maya Summers, who has over 100 thousand subscribers, explains what she wears and what she has seen female students wear around campuses she has been to. In the video, she goes on to say that her easy go-to fit was an oversized tee with leggings. Her video also shows what she has worn on game days, at parties, or just to class. According to herstylecode.com, a website that lets females know what fashions are in and what fashions are not, posted a column called ‘What To Wear To College’ explaining things to take into consideration when picking out what to wear. These things include focusing on essentials and prioritize comfort. On the site, they even post pictures of the outfits that they are speaking about. Out of 5 pictures, 3 of them were leggings and big tee shirts.

Freshman Rhen Bordelon says, “This morning I got out of bed fifteen minutes before class started. I literally threw on the clothes that were on my floor and ran to class.” When asked about her fashion sense in high school Rhen had to say, “In high school, I thought I had to dress up every day. I would only wear comfortable clothes once or twice a week.”

For male college students, comfortable clothing comes in a variety of ways. Many students have a choice to make in the morning comfortable khakis or comfortable gym clothing. According to onpointfresh.com, a website dedicated to male fashion has a column called ‘College Wardrobe Clothing Essentials For Guys’ has a lot of tips like tee shirts, button-up shirts, sweaters or hoodies, khakis, sweats, and finally sneakers. A Youtube video by Shan Rizwan, who has over 82 thousand subscribers to his channel, shows what he wears to his campus throughout a week. Four out of five school days, he wears a combination of hoodies and sweaters with sweat pants, khakis, or jeans. He also wears sneakers with all of his outfits.

Freshman Landin Vincifora says, “I woke up and I thought about what I wanted to wear. I chose the sweater with the matching sweats because I know people walking around campus during a pandemic could care less about what I am wearing. I simply put no effort or thought into what I wear to class because I also do not care what other people think of me. As for the way I dressed in high school, some days was lazy but most days I got up extra early just to make sure I was looking my best.”
